This natural, unheated Tanzanite crystal cluster from the Merelani Hills of Tanzania displays pronounced pleochroism, revealing violet-purple, blue and golden-yellow hues when viewed from different angles. Weighing 22 carats (4.4 grams), the specimen retains the distinctive natural colour characteristics prized by collectors of unheated Tanzanite. Its lavender-purple body contrasts with pale golden-yellow terminations, while deeper violet-blue tones become apparent as the crystal is rotated. This striking trichroic colour display is particularly noticeable in the accompanying video.
The specimen consists of several closely intergrown prismatic Tanzanite crystals, forming an unusual cluster with multiple natural terminations. Fine vertical growth striations run along the crystal faces, with attractive vitreous lustre, natural inclusions and areas of translucency and transparency. The stepped crystal formation and contrasting colours give this piece considerable character as a natural mineral specimen. An appealing addition for collectors specialising in Tanzanian minerals, pleochroic crystals and natural-colour Tanzanite.
