This Okorusu fluorite from Namibia has an unusually rich purple colour, with tightly intergrown cubic crystals ranging from deep aubergine and almost black-looking violet to brilliant magenta and translucent pink-lavender. The darker cubes are concentrated through the centre of the specimen, while the outer crystals become much lighter, allowing the internal purple colouring to show through. Several crystal faces display good glassy lustre, with stepped growth and overlapping cubes creating considerable depth despite the specimen’s small size.

The arrangement is particularly interesting. Rather than forming a compact, rounded cluster, the crystals develop along an elongated, asymmetrical structure, narrowing towards one end and broadening into larger, lighter purple crystals at the other. Turning the specimen reveals further dark violet cubes, translucent edges and smaller intergrown crystals tucked between the larger formations. The reverse is much more heavily textured, with fine purple crystalline growth and patches of pale associated material. Some crystal edges are irregular, with visible internal fractures and contact areas, but the principal viewing faces retain attractive cubic definition and particularly strong colour contrast.

Metaphysical Properties

Purple fluorite is traditionally associated with mental clarity, concentration and intuition. In crystal traditions, its violet colouring is often linked with reflection, clear thinking and personal awareness. These are traditional metaphysical beliefs rather than scientifically established properties.
