This is a small natural emerald crystal from the El Sufrimiento Mine at Coscuez in Boyacá, Colombia, weighing 0.50ct and measuring roughly 7 × 4mm. What I like about this one is the colour — it has a really strong, vivid green for such a tiny crystal, with enough translucency for the colour to light up nicely from different angles. It still has recognisable natural crystal faces, along with some contrasting host material attached around parts of the surface, which gives it much more character than a plain little piece of emerald rough.
It is definitely a miniature specimen, as the finger photo makes clear, but that is part of its appeal. I think this one works particularly well for someone who collects small Colombian emerald crystals, micromounts or unusual natural gemstones and wants something with good colour rather than just size. It is completely uncut and you will receive the exact crystal shown in the photographs. Emerald is also the traditional May birthstone, so it has that extra bit of interest for anyone who likes collecting natural birthstone material rather than conventional cut stones.
