This 13.48 ct natural spinel crystal comes from Mahenge in Tanzania and has the intense red-pink colour this locality has become famous for. It is a naturally formed twin crystal, with rich raspberry and magenta tones, strong lustre and areas where the crystal becomes beautifully transparent.
There is a lot going on inside this one. Natural inclusions and internal fractures run through the crystal, but there are also small gemmy areas considered suitable for faceting. I have left it exactly as it is because, for me, the combination of vivid colour, twin crystal form and those transparent windows makes it far more interesting as a natural Mahenge specimen.
