Fluorite crystal, butterfly pocket, natural blue green fluorite specimen, okorusu mine, namibia

This small Butterfly Pocket fluorite has far more going on than its 12 g weight suggests. Several blue green cubes overlap across pale matrix, with bright turquoise edges around much darker teal and blue interiors. The colour becomes noticeably stronger where light passes through the thinner parts of the crystals, while the thicker areas show deeper internal zoning.

It comes from the Butterfly Pocket at the Okorusu Mine in Namibia, a recent find known for blue and blue green cubic fluorite with darker violet and phantom-style zoning. The zoning on this specimen is more subtle than on some of the textbook Butterfly Pocket pieces, but the combination of saturated colour, intergrown cubes and contrasting cream matrix makes it a particularly attractive little thumbnail specimen from several angles.
