A really attractive epidote with quartz specimen from Hakkari, Turkey, with dozens of quartz crystals growing through dark green to olive epidote. The quartz varies from almost clear to more included and smoky-looking crystals, while the darker epidote works its way between them. Look closely and there are tiny, almost black epidote crystals tucked amongst the quartz too, giving the whole piece much more detail than you initially notice.
What I particularly like about this specimen is how three-dimensional it is. There isn’t one dominant crystal doing all the work; instead, quartz points emerge at different heights and angles right across the piece, with smaller crystals filling the spaces between them. It’s a lovely example of the distinctive epidote and quartz association coming from Hakkari, sometimes referred to by collectors as “Fairy Forest” epidote, but with a darker, earthier appearance than some of the brighter green examples.
