This is a natural Hiddenite crystal from North Carolina, the rare green variety of spodumene and one of the classic American collector minerals. Collected by Terry Ledford, this 2.5 carat crystal has a delicate natural green colour with faint zoning, good translucency and the slender, elongated crystal form associated with North Carolina Hiddenite.

What I particularly like about this piece is its natural character. At around 22 mm long, it is a small specimen, but the elongated prismatic form, internal inclusions and surviving termination give it plenty to study closely. The colour is subtle rather than intensely saturated, but combined with genuine North Carolina provenance and Terry Ledford collection history, it is a lovely example of true Hiddenite rather than the much more widely available green spodumene commonly sold under the name.
