This is a natural Swiss Alpine smoky quartz crystal cluster from the Glacier Pocket at Lochberg in Canton Uri, Switzerland. The specimen combines clear to milky quartz with several smoky crystal points, including a deeper brown termination that gives the piece its strongest contrast. At around 3 cm across it is a compact mineral specimen, but the stepped crystal growth and mix of smoky, clear and matrix areas give it plenty of depth.

What I particularly like about this one is how different it looks as you turn it. Some angles are dominated by the paler Alpine quartz, while others bring out the smoky colour and individual terminations much more strongly. The cluster has retained its natural matrix and contact areas as formed, which adds to the character rather than making it feel like a polished or overly cleaned specimen.
