This natural red beryl crystal from Utah shows a vivid raspberry-red tone and a true hexagonal outline. Measuring around 7 mm across and weighing 1.65 carats, it’s a thicker and more substantial crystal than most from this locality; robust, balanced, and fully terminated. The termination shows a soft glassy sheen with a small natural etch pit at the centre, while the prism faces display fine frosting typical of Utah material.

Collected from Searle Canyon (now Starvation Canyon) in the Thomas Range, Juab County, Utah, this crystal formed within cavities in the locality’s rhyolitic volcanic rocks. Its rich red colour comes from manganese within the beryl structure. Complete, well-proportioned crystals from this locality are relatively uncommon, and this example stands out for its thick hexagonal form, intact termination and saturated raspberry-red colour. The even outline and clean contact at the base give it a particularly balanced appearance, making it a strong example of natural, unaltered Utah red beryl.

RARITY

Utah red beryl is one of the world’s rarest naturally occurring minerals, and complete crystals over one carat are uncommon. This 1.65 ct example displays the thicker prismatic habit less frequently encountered at the Wah Wah locality. Its combination of size, completeness, and rich tone positions it among the finer miniature specimens from the deposit.
