This pink Imperial Topaz crystal comes from Ouro Preto, Minas Gerais, Brazil, and the thing that really makes it stand out is the pleochrism. The still photographs flatten the colour a little, but as soon as the crystal is rotated in the light (see video), it changes dramatically through pink, salmon-pink and warmer peach-orange tones. The video is probably the best way to appreciate just how much the colour moves.

It is also a very transparent little crystal, with strong lustre, an elegant elongated form and pronounced natural striations running down the prism faces. There are natural inclusions and internal fractures, and the upper termination is incomplete, but visually the combination of pink colour, clarity and unusually strong pleochrism makes this a particularly appealing example of Imperial Topaz from Ouro Preto.
