This is a 589g naturally etched ametrine from the Anahí Mine in Bolivia, measuring 16 × 6.5 × 4.5cm. The colour is strongest through the centre, with deep violet and magenta areas surrounded by much paler translucent quartz. The thing that really stands out on this piece is the etching — the crystal has been dissolved into a long central structure with thin feathered edges, deep channels and projecting sections, so it looks completely different as you turn it.

The etching formed naturally after the quartz had already grown, when later hydrothermal fluids partially dissolved the crystal. One side is much more heavily etched, while the reverse still has broader, smoother translucent areas, which makes the contrast especially interesting. Large etched Anahí specimens like this are not commonly seen, particularly at this size and with this much colour still running through the crystal. Natural internal fractures, inclusions, contacts and irregular etched edges are present throughout.
