These three natural fluorite specimens come from Llamas Quarry at Duyos in Asturias, Spain, a locality I don’t see offered often and one that has become increasingly difficult to source on the collector market. What caught my attention with this little group was how different the three pieces are despite coming from the same locality: one is exceptionally clear, one is much more sculptural and intergrown, and one has that classic blocky cubic form with a soft lilac edge colour.

Llamas is known for transparent fluorite with sharply developed cubic crystals and modified edges, and all three show that character in different ways. Specimen (A) is the clearest, with an almost colourless glassy crystal and subtle lilac around parts of the margins. Specimen (B) is the largest and most complex, with several pale lilac crystals growing into one another in stepped, overlapping formations. Specimen (C) is a compact dominant cube with softer surface texture and a more obvious violet-lilac rim. They are being sold separately, so you can choose the exact specimen that appeals to you most.

An exceptionally transparent, near-colourless fluorite crystal with subtle pale lilac colour around parts of the edges. The crystal is dominated by a sharp cubic form with clearly modified margins, giving it much more character than a simple fluorite cube. This is the strongest of the three for clarity and optical appeal.

The largest and most sculptural specimen in the group, with multiple transparent to pale lilac fluorite crystals growing together. It shows stepped and intergrown growth throughout, so the appearance changes considerably as the piece is turned. This is the one I would choose for someone who prefers more complex crystal architecture.

Size: 1.5 × 1.6 × 1.4 cm
A compact, dominant pale lilac fluorite cube with subtle edge modification and stronger violet-lilac colour around parts of the perimeter. The surfaces are slightly softer and more textured than LAQ2, and pale crystalline material remains naturally attached to one side.

Locality: Llamas Quarry is a scarce Asturian fluorite locality and fine material from the area is encountered far less frequently than fluorite from many of the better-known commercial localities.

Condition: These are natural mineral specimens, so minor contacts, internal cleavage, growth irregularities and surface texture may be present. Please use the photographs to assess each specimen carefully.
